Sadachara (ಸದಾಚಾರ)

Sadachara is act of good living with the society by following 7 rules as explained by Guru Basavanna.
ಕಳಬೇಡ, ಕೊಲಬೇಡ, ಹುಸಿಯ ನುಡಿಯಲು ಬೇಡ,
ಮುನಿಯಬೇಡ, ಅನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಅಸಹ್ಯಬಡಬೇಡ,
ತನ್ನ ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಬೇಡ, ಇದಿರ ಹಳಿಯಲು ಬೇಡ.
ಇದೇ ಅಂತರಂಗಶುದ್ಧಿ, ಇದೇ ಬಹಿರಂಗಶುದ್ಧಿ
ಇದೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವರನೊಲಿಸುವ ಪರಿ. /235

Translation:
Do not steal, do not kill,
do not lie, do not rage,
do not loathe the other,
do not brag of yourself,
do not revile the opponent.
This itself is inner purity,
this itself is outer purity.
This alone is the way to win
our Koodalasangamadeva. -Guru Basava/150/^[1]

Sadachara consists of the following components:
- Religious conduct and right moral character - nothing else like wealth, professional difference, status in the community, etc., - should be only the criteria to interact with the society.
- The Lingayat should earn living by doing honest work ( Kayaka ).
- The surplus wealth should be distributed to other needy persons (Dasoha).
- He/she should invite Jangama (holy person), who moves around to propagate the religion and preaches the right way to practice religion.
- Lingayats should respect one another and consider and treat everyone as equal.

ಛಲಬೇಕು ಶರಣಂಗೆ ಪರಧನವನೊಲ್ಲೆನೆಂಬ,
ಛಲಬೇಕು ಶರಣಂಗೆ ಪರಸತಿಯನೊಲ್ಲೆನೆಂಬ,
ಛಲಬೇಕು ಶರಣಂಗೆ ಪರದೈವವನೊಲ್ಲೆನೆಂಬ,
ಛಲಬೇಕು ಶರಣಂಗೆ ಲಿಂಗ ಜಂಗಮವನೊಂದೆಂಬ,
ಛಲಬೇಕು ಶರಣಂಗೆ ಪ್ರಸಾದ ದಿಟವೆಂಬ,
ಛಲವಿಲ್ಲದವರ ಮೆಚ್ಚ ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವ. - *ಬಸವಣ್ಣ ಸವಸ1/677[1]

Sharana must be resolute,
not to desire another’s wealth.
Sharana must be resolute,
not to desire another’s wife.
Sharana must be resolute,
not to desire another’s gods.
Sharana must be resolute,
that linga and jangama are one.
Sharana must be resolute
that prasaada is truth.
Koodalasangama does not love
