ಕುಲಮದವಳಿಯದನ್ನಕ್ಕ ಶರಣನಾಗಲೇಕೆ
ವಿಧಿವಶ ಬಿಡದನ್ನಕ್ಕ ಭಕ್ತನಾಗಲೇಕೆ
ಹಮ್ಮಿನ ಸೊಮ್ಮಿನ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಬಿಟ್ಟು
ಕಿಂಕಿಲ ಕಿಂಕಿಲ ಕಿಂಕಿಲನಾಗಿರಬೇಕು.
ಹೆಪ್ಪನೆರೆದ ಹಾಲು ಕೆಟ್ಟು ತುಪ್ಪವಪ್ಪಂತೆ ಇಪ್ಪರು
ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವಾ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಶರಣರು. -1/869 #
Translation:
Why become a devotee unless the pride of caste is shed?
Why become a devotee unless the shackles of fate are broken?
One must be the humblest of humble,
Giving up all the ties born of vanity and riches,
Like the milk turning sour only to became ghee
Are your devotees, O Lord Kudala Sangama!

ಆದ್ಯರಿಗಲ್ಲದೆ ವೇದ್ಯವಾಗದು; ಮಾಣಿ ಭೋ, ಮಾಣಿ ಭೋ !
ಶಿವಭಕ್ತನೇ ಕುಲಜ,
ಕೈವರ್ತಗರ್ಭಸಂಭೂತಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯಮಹಾಮುನಿಃ
ತಪಸಾ ಜಾಯತೇ ವಿಪ್ರಕುಲಂ ಜಾತಿರ್ನ ವಿದ್ಯತೇ
ಜಾತನಲ್ಲ ಅಜಾತನಲ್ಲ,
ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗನ ಶರಣರು ನಿಸ್ಸೀಮರಯ್ಯಾ. -1/602 #
Translation:
Stop, stop your arguments
None but our ancestors
Can understand the truth
That the Shiva-devotee alone is well-born
The mighty saint Maarkhandeya
Though born of a fisher-woman’s loins,
Was reputed a great saint
One becomes a saint by penance
There’s nothing like caste in birth
Neither born nor unborn
Are Kudala Sanga’s Sharanas

ಹೊಲೆಗಂಡಲ್ಲದೆ ಪಿಂಡದ ನೆಲೆಗಾಶ್ರಯವಿಲ್ಲ
ಜಲ-ಬಿಂದುವಿನ ವ್ಯವಹಾರ ಒಂದೇ,
ಆಶೆಯಾಮಿಷರೋಷಹರುಷ ವಿಷಯಾದಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಒಂದೇ.
ಏನನೋದಿ, ಏನ ಕೇಳಿ, ಏನು ಫಲ
ಕುಲಜನೆಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆವುದು ದೃಷ್ಟ
ಸಪ್ತಧಾತುಸಮಂ ಪಿಂಡಂ ಸಮಯೋನಿಸಮದ್ಭವಂ
ಆತ್ಮಜೀವಸಮಾಯುಕ್ತಂ ವರ್ಣಾನಾಂ ಕಿಂ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಂ ಎಂದುದಾಗಿ,
ಕಾಸಿ ಕಮ್ಮಾರನಾದ, ಬೀಸಿ ಮಡಿವಾಳನಾದ,
ಹಾಸನಿಕ್ಕಿ ಸಾಲಿಗನಾದ, ವೇದವನೋದಿ ಹಾರುವನಾದ.
ಕರ್ಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರುಂಟೆ ಜಗದೊಳಗೆ
ಇದು ಕಾರಣ ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗಮದೇವಾ,
ಲಿಂಗಸ್ಥಲವನರಿದವನೆ ಕುಲಜನು. -1/590 #
Translation:
The foetal seed cannot be implanted in the womb except after menstrual flow!
The function of semen-drops is ever the same:
Lust, greed, anger, joy, and all other passions are the same
One might read the sacred books
And hear the preaching of the sacred word:
But what is the proof of one’s high birth?
The embryo is formed of the seven elements;
It has the same birth in the same womb
The alliance of self and soul is ever the same
When, born in the same way, all are one,
Non superior, none inferior,
What is the usefulness of caste that
Discriminates between human beings?
As it is so,
One became a blacksmith by heating iron;
One became a washer man by washing clothes;
One became a weaver by weaving cloth,
One became a Haaruva by reading the Vedas!
Was anyone ever born through the ear?
Therefore, one who knows the secret of the
Linga alone is well-born
O Lord Kudala Sanga!

ವ್ಯಾಸ ಬೋವಿತಿಯ ಮಗ, ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯ ಮಾತಂಗಿಯ ಮಗ,
ಮಂಡೋದರಿ ಕಪ್ಪೆಯ ಮಗಳು.
ಕುಲವನರಸದಿರಿಂ ಭೋ ! ಕುಲದಿಂದ ಮುನ್ನೇನಾದಿರಿಂ ಭೋ !
ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯ ಕಬ್ಬಿಲ, ದುರ್ವಾಸ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಗ, ಕಶ್ಯಪ ಕಮ್ಮಾರ,
ಕಾಂಡಿನ್ಯನೆಂಬ ಋಷಿ ಮೂರು ಭುವನರಿಯದೆ ನಾವಿದ ಕಾಣಿ ಭೋ !
ನಮ್ಮ ಕೂಡಲಸಂಗನ ವಚನವಿಂತೆಂದುದು
ಶ್ವಪಚೋಪಿಯಾದಡೇನು, ಶಿವಭಕ್ತನೆ ಕುಲಜಂ ಭೋ ! -1/589 #
Translation:
Vyashya was a fisherman’s son,
Markhandeya a matangi’s
Mandodari was a forg’s daughter!
Lo, do not look for a person’s caste
What did you get by caste in the past?
Agastya was a Kabbila actually
Durvasa, a shoemaker,
Kashyapa, a blacksmith;
Lo, the sage Koundinya,
As the three worlds know, was a barber
Says our Kudala Sanga;
He alone is deemed well-born, who is Shiva’s devotee,
Through he is a swapacha
