With a mirror in hand, can’t you see yourself?
If you miss out on the prasaada of lingajangama,
shouldn’t you be killed?
If they say
there is no liberation for those who kill
I shall stuff their mouth
with the footwear of the watchman.
Solve this riddle, you corrupt worldlings.
If you cannot, let your tongue
hang like the tail of a dead dog
Sadguru Niranga Linga.
[Vachana No.1304] [1]
Kannadi Kaayakada Revamma had alternative names such as Remamma and Remmavve. Because of the prefix in her name it is guessed that she might belong to barber’s caste. There is a vachanakara by name Kannadi KaayakadaAmmidevayya and hence this woman might be related to him. Only one vachana is extant with the signature phrase Sadguru Sanga Nirangalinga. It reflects the importance of discipline, love of prasaada and the forthrightness of Ganaachara
As the epithet Kannadi Kāyaka suggests, Rēvamma belongs to the barber community, another low-caste community. Kannadi Kayaka means hair-dressing, beautifying, etc. She has left behind only one vachana which bears the ankita “Sadgurusanga Nirangalinga“. She is a staunch Sharane, who is Kayaka-bound and who displays her firm faith in Guru, Linga and Jangama worship. Kannadi is a meaningful metaphor for mind and Linga. One's mind should be as clean as a mirror, for only a clean mind can reflect a clear image of the Self. She burns with indignation against the violators of vows, She asks the violators of vows a blunt question:
Why not look into the mirror when the mirror is in your own hand?
Why not kill those who err in respect of the Prasāda of Linga and Jangama?
She is a brave and headstrong devotee who does not hesitate to resort to violent means in order to punish the violators. It is a matter of deep disappointment that no details relating to her biography are available. So whatever little we know of her faith and personality is extracted from her own Vachana.
