Full Name: Konde Manchannagala Punyastree Laxshmamma
Pen Name (Vachana Signature): Agajeshwaralinga

When time ends, it’s death.
When vow is broken,
it’s the end of body.
Our Agajeshwaralinga won’t like those wasteful
who take special rituals to amend
[Vachana No.1307] [1]

Laxmamma, the wife of Kondemanchanna, a minister in the court of king Bijjala, also wrote Vachanas dealing with devotion and vow. But unfortunately only one Vachana is available now and it is included in the bundle of manuscripts containing the Vachanas of all ancient saints [Sakalapuratanaru]. For Laxmamma, as for Akkamma and other devoted women, a vow was her life-breath. The breach of vow brings about the death of a devotee. A vow is not an observance to be broken repeatedly and to be undertaken again according to the whims and fancy and convenience of a devotee. Once a vow is broken, it is the end of everything. To say that a devotee who breaks a vow can repent and again restore his vow is false. It is only the hypocrites who say so. She pierces through the hypocrites with her sword sharp words. Laxmamma exhibits ‘Ganachara Nişthe’ in such phrases as-the broken pots, called superior keepers of vows.
